Seven years ago, the HNL Senior and Adult Recreation Council Executive Committee introduced a New Award to recognize individuals that have made a significant contribution to Senior Hockey in our province. This award was called the Senior Council Volunteer Award. In 2020 it was decided to rename the award after the Late Clyde Williams, an individual that devoted his life to this great game. Clyde,"Stumpie Williams"was a tireless volunteer, player and great fan. He played hockey for years in the Intermediate League in Deer Lake and after his playing career ended, he served as a volunteer with the Deer Lake Red Wings. He was a founding member of the New West Coast Senior Hockey League, was Western Director of Senior Council for two terms and a recipient of the Charlie McCarthy Award. In 2021 Senior Council decided The Clyde Williams Senior Volunteer Award would go to Jamie Young of Port Aux Basques to recognize his significant contribution to his Local Team the PAB Mariners! Due to the Covid shut down we were unable to present in 2021.
Jamie has served as a volunteer with the Mariners for the past decade, beginning with the Junior Mariners back in 2012-13. Jamie has been involved with the founding members of the New West Coast Senior Hockey League in 2016-17, member of the WCSHL Executive for the last 5 years, President and Treasurer of the PAB Mariners, and most recently bringing the Herder Memorial Championship back into action on the West Coast with his contribution to the HNL Herder Committee.
Thank you, Jamie for your tireless devotion to Senior Hockey in the Province and of course The PAB Mariners!!!!
