The St. John's Toyota Plaza Caps won the opening game of the Avalon East best of seven final series Friday night. The Caps edged the Northeast Eagles 4-3 at the Jack Byrne Arena.

It was a close game from the start. The teams were deadlocked at one all after the first 20 minutes of play. The Caps managed to take a 3-2 lead after the second period and the teams exchanged goals in the third period with the Caps getting the victory. Mark Roebothan, Jon Caul, Luc Deering and Justin O'Rielly shared in the scoring for the Caps. Bryan Clarke, Chris Mooney and Dan Cadigan replied for the Eagles.

Game two in this series will be played Monday night at 8:00pm at the Goulds Arena.
